VertaseFLI and Harron Homes Save the Fish Population *UPDATED*

Leading Yorkshire property developer, Harron Homes have been rescuing the fish population in the Staveley branch of the Chesterfield Canal.

Due to the unusually warm and dry weather conditions currently affecting Britain, oxygen levels were depleting in the canal, endangering the canals aquatic life. To combat this, Derbyshire County Council and the Environment Agency recruited the assistance of home builder Harron Homes and Enabling and Remediation Contractor VertaseFLI.

With the right equipment, courtesy of Harron Homes and VertaseFLI, they were able to re-oxygenate the canal to save the fish.

VertaseFLI project manager Claire Lilley commented: “We work very closely with the Environment Agency and Local Authority on all our projects and we were pleased to be able to help with this.”

Rachel Sheard, Sales Manager at Harron Homes commented: “We know how important this stretch of canal is to the local community and the well-being of the aquatic-life is crucial. We are delighted that between us and our contractor we could contribute positively to the environment and local amenity by ensuring that the fish stocks in the canal survive this hot dry period.

“We will always offer our assistance to ensure the well-being of the community is the best it can possibly be.”

Derbyshire Country Council Countryside Services Assistant Area Manager (Jon Tilley) commented: “I’d like to thank Harron Homes for their assistance and dedication in this matter. The Environment Agency has since that reported oxygen levels almost back to normal, which wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Harron Homes.”
