Technical Specialist – July 2020  -CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS 31st JULY 2020

Do you have expertise in the environmental sciences, geosciences, environmental engineering or contaminated land? Do you have experience in the land remediation industry and looking for a new and exciting challenge to work within a team, providing technical support to some of the UK’s largest, most challenging land and groundwater remediation projects?

Vertase FLI is one of the largest and most respected technically qualified remediation contractors in the UK working on a diverse range of remediation, earthworks and civil engineering projects. We are looking for a Technical Specialist to join our team.

The successful candidate will perform in a supporting role to our tendering and project delivery teams. The role shall require knowledge of the wide range of technical issues underpinning remediation options appraisal, remediation strategy design, strategy implementation and verification. A good experience of the legislative drivers of the UK land remediation industry and a good knowledge of UK waste regulations as appropriate to remediation is expected. A good knowledge of risk assessment for land contamination is also desirable.

Working in a supporting tole to our tendering and project delivery teams, your key responsibilities can be summarised as follows:

  • Supporting tenders by reviewing third party information to aid scoping and to identify risks/opportunities;
  • Supporting remediation strategy design including preparing method statements, implementation plans, earthworks specifications and supporting laboratory feasibility trials;
  • Supporting project delivery teams with the preparation of pre-start documentation and obtaining necessary licenses, approvals, permits and consents – including the preparation of Materials Management Plans in accordance with the CL:AIRE DoWCoP;
  • Supporting project delivery teams with technical challenges during remediation implementation and verification, including Regulatory liaison to support project close out where required;
  • Mentoring junior staff or indeed others in the business with a desire to learn technical skills.

The job role is predominantly based from an office, however the candidate would be expected to attend site and support site-based activities as required by the business. Site-based activities could include site investigation, sampling and general acquisition of technical data.

The successful candidate will ideally posses a number of personal attributes including, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude towards all challenges;
  • Open minded with an ability to see multiple perspectives;
  • Critical thinking with an ability to recognise limitations in technical guidance;
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Confidence in own ability;
  • An ability and desire to learn new technical skills in short time periods;
  • Good communication skills.

A working knowledge of using MS office software, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential. An ability and desire to learn to use additional software as appropriate to the role is expected.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience; benefits include holidays, non contributory pension scheme, medical scheme, and fantastic training/ development opportunities.
